Nevada City, Montana is a collection of buildings, old equipment and other various gold-rush ephemera laid out on a slightly sloping field in the southwestern part of the state. My college roommate and I walked among its old buildings and rusting farm equipment on a drizzly spring day nearly four years ago.

"Katrina damage," New Orleans, January 2007
In order to depict something damaged, my mind kept going back to New Orleans. The images from that city after Hurricane Katrina aren't just of abandoned ruins crumbling because of neglect, they were thriving, inhabited neighborhoods filled with life and everyday activity one morning, then a desolate, deserted aftermath of a storm path and an ill-equipped government.

"Abandoned autumn," New Jersey, October 2009
Back in October, I took a drive along Old Mine Road, an historic trail-turned-road that's been around since the 1600s. It features several abandoned homes and camps that were left behind when plans were made to dam the Delaware at Tocks Island. It was a beautiful autumn day, a perfect afternoon for a drive with a few stops to hike along the way. I only explored about half the road and can't wait to get back.

Day 207 of 365
Apparently, it's the building itself that's the discount.

Day 2 of 365
It only took two days into the New Year and my photo a day resolution to get to the point where I shot just one subject and let that stand as my shot of the day. (We're still awaiting the first instance of "taking a picture just to fulfill the daily quota," however, because I would've taken this photo based on the dilapidated building under any circumstances. But I'm also not sure I would've had the camera in the front console of the car, ready to grab and take a quick shot, had I not set this ambitious goal for myself this year. So it's already paying off.
We were getting gas at a Sunoco station on Tremont St. in Boston's South End and I looked across the road at this boarded-up building on the corner of Tremont and Northampton St. I couldn't find much on these former stores online, though another Flickr user doesn't think Fred & Emma's has been open for some time. I'll have to ask Bryan if he knows anything about it, but he's only lived in the neighborhood for a little more than a year.
