Day 273 of 365

Looking east along 14th Street from the corner at Ninth Ave.

Day 272 of 365

I don't know if that's where she asked to go, but she has a suitcase.

Day 271 of 365

Walking along 17th Street, I looked up and this caught my eye.

Day 270 of 365

On my walk out of Chelsea Market in the early morning, I came across the new pumpkin display at the Manhattan Fruit Exchange -- a sure sign that autumn has come to the city.

Day 269 of 365

At the western end of 15th Street, where the road ends at the West Side Highway along the Hudson River.

Day 268 of 365

Cat and wife on a quiet Friday night at home.

Day 267 of 365

For our anniversary dinner, Casey and I went to Gramercy Tavern -- just hours after Michelle Obama had lunch there. (And some people freaked.) This was my first course, whole spelt spaghetti with sungold tomatoes, capers and basil. I remarked that it looked like a spaghetti cocoon.

Day 266 of 365

Just 100 days to go! On the first day of autumn -- and Bruce Springsteen's birthday -- I went up to Garret Mountain for a 3-mile run on the loop road and the path around Barbour Pond. As I drove in, I caught a glimpse of this tree just starting to sprout its colors for fall. After my run, I drove the one-way loop again to stop for this shot.

Day 265 of 365

Standing at the corner of Greenwich and Christopher streets in the West Village.

Monday, September 21, 2009

Day 264 of 365

I caught the late afternoon light on a West Side high-rise next to Frank Gehry's IAC Building.

Day 263 of 365

An original flag from Shea Stadium, flown back in the days when they used to fly the NL cities atop the ballpark. It's so large, this is really the only wall -- at least the only undecorated one -- in the house big enough on which to display it.

Day 262 of 365

Though he's jumped on the coffee table dozens of times, this was the first instance in which Harry noticed the mouse cursor on the screen and tried to get it.

This is a screengrab of the video:

Day 261 of 365

Time for a new license. Four years later, I've got a little less hair, a new shirt and went to a DMV that has you stand a little further from the camera.

Day 260 of 365

Watch out! He'll attack your ankles if you try to shoplift.

Day 259 of 365

I'll hold them to it!

Day 258 of 365

As autumn draws closer, the sun sinks lower by the time I'm heading into work, so the photos opportunities are getting better.

Day 257 of 365

Showed a friend from L.A. the High Line this afternoon before I went into work and as I looked up before heading down to street level, I noticed the sun shining on a plane high above and the sky reflected in the windows of the Caledonia condo building.

Day 256 of 365

Nothing too special about this one. Was stopped at the light on 18th St. at Eighth Ave., looked over, and liked the melding of the reflections in the window and the displays in the store. I did take a more closely cropped shot first, and it shows more detail in the reflections and displays, but in the end I liked this one better.

Day 255 of 365

I'd taken a shot of this colorful billboard a few weeks ago, from an angle further back on 30th St., only to have my camera and computer screw up the transfer. While not the same, this one worked out OK, too.

Day 254 of 365

I actually kinda love this shot for what it isn't: accurate. It wasn't this foggy (though it sure felt like it), but the effect comes from the fact that my little Canon Powershot was in my bag next to a cold bottle of water. So when I brought it out and exposed it to the warmer, humid air, it fogged up the lens. I didn't realize it at first -- I thought it was just on the LCD screen -- and took the shot. Then I looked at the lens and saw the condensation, so this was the only shot I took.

Day 253 of 365

Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, the Tribute in Light beam rises until it meets the cloud cover. Commuters exit the PATH and Hoboken Bus Terminal. Behind me, Steelers fans drink and talk above the DJ at Texas Arizona as the NFL season prepares to kick off.

Wednesday, September 09, 2009

Day 252 of 365

After I polished off a taste Shackburger, fries and Shackmeister Ale (probably the best beer at Citi Field), I caught the clouds and fading daylight above the old scoreboard skyline perched atop two of the Danny Meyer restaurants out beyond center field.

Day 251 of 365

Some of the other stalls at the Clifton train station were occupied by bikes, but this one looks like it's been vacant for some time.

Monday, September 07, 2009

Day 250 of 365

I was about to reach for my sunglasses at a stoplight when I noticed my reflection in them. So first, I took this photo. Then I donned the shades to reduce the glare.

Day 249 of 365

The red curtains over the doorway to Morimoto at Chelsea Market on 10th Avenue.

Saturday, September 05, 2009

Day 248 of 365

College football is back. Let's go Irish!

Friday, September 04, 2009

Day 247 of 365

I tried to move around to get the streetlight from the parking lot out of the shot, but was unable to do so. Still came out pretty well, I thought.

Update: Submitted for plants

"The wilds of New York," August 2009

With the opening of the High Line park, New York's urban landscape features much more of both parts of that term. In letting native plants grow atop the trestle, the urban becomes more wild, creating dichotomies like these.

Day 246 of 365

This corner is believed to be where the diner that inspired Nighthawks was located.

Wednesday, September 02, 2009

Day 245 of 365

For my birthday, I headed home to have lunch with my parents at The WindMill in Long Branch. I chose the original specifically to sit on the second-floor deck at the base of the red windmill and look out on Ocean Blvd. and the ocean. I shot the tower reflected in the back window of my mom's car as we headed up the road for ice cream at the Lighthouse.

Day 244 of 365

Was killing some time in Jersey City's Journal Square while waiting for some friends to get off the PATH and so I looked around and contemplated the section's namesake. Then I thought of Herald Square and its defunct namesake and Times Square, whose paper has moved to the west and no longer actually sites on the square (which isn't a square at all, but still ...).
