Day 243 of 365

It's September. The days are growing shorter, so when I head to work in the afternoons now, the light is more golden and causes the buildings and other objects to cast longer shadows. While walking the High Line to work, I caught the sun illuminating this signpost in the Meatpacking District.

Day 242 of 365

Heading home from Boston, we passed three motorcycles on the Mass Pike that each had a stuffed animal (mascots?) riding along on their bikes.

Day 241 of 365

My college roommate married his partner in Boston the day Ted Kennedy was laid to rest. We had to dodge the closed streets around the Westin on Friday night with all the presidents spending the night there, and we had to dodge the raindrops on Saturday. But when it was all said and done, it was a grand yet intimate celebration at the Boston Public Library.

Here, they welcome the guests on the landing of the entry hall, standing on the spot where they were later married.

Day 240 of 365

At the Garrison Square Apartments, Boston. I looked up after laying down on a slate wall to relax while waiting for Casey to come back with the key to our guest suite.

Day 239 of 365

Erik Ainge under center for the Jets during a drill at training camp in Florham Park, N.J.

Wednesday, August 26, 2009

Day 238 of 365

Looking up at the view from the sunroof of the car on Broad St. in Red Bank. Little did I know what I'd be looking at two days later.

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

Day 237 of 365

A pepper from our garden that soon became a topping on a grand plate of nachos.

Monday, August 24, 2009

Day 236 of 365

Sunday, August 23, 2009

Day 235 of 365

Up Eighth Ave. toward the NY Times Building.

Saturday, August 22, 2009

Day 234 of 365

The air was about as wet and heavy as the mud around home plate.

Friday, August 21, 2009

Day 233 of 365

Was too drunk to care if I got a good shot, so I just moved on. But I took it to note that it would've been funny if the lights that were out were the only ones lit -- then it would say HA!

Thursday, August 20, 2009

Day 232 of 365

The sun sets over Queens.

Wednesday, August 19, 2009

Day 231 of 365

Had a few minutes left to get a shot in for the day.

Tuesday, August 18, 2009

Day 230 of 365

Coming home at 5:30 a.m., I got to gaze up at the pairing of the Moon and Venus in the lightening dawn sky, but didn't get to an open (and dark) enough space to spot the International Space Station as it moved across the sky.

Monday, August 17, 2009

Day 229 of 365

Not to make light of it, but if I lived across from the Spotted Pig, I might have financial trouble, too.

Sunday, August 16, 2009

Day 228 of 365

A Surfin' Sizemore bobblehead obtained (for free) at a Cleveland Indians game in July, a Mets Pez dispenser, a "Baseballasaurus" plush toy I was given sometime in high school (or childhood?), and a 2004 All-Star Game ceramic boot given out to fans and reporters at the game in Houston.

Saturday, August 15, 2009

Day 227 of 365

Despite the various opportunities on a busy Saturday (lots of other people to watch) at the Guggenheim, I observed their request for no photos inside -- though it would've been funny to take a shot from the top looking down at the lobby, where we saw my father-in-law wandering in circles waiting for us.

Instead, I settled for the classic curvature of the exterior against a brilliant blue sky.

Friday, August 14, 2009

Day 226 of 365

Quite the light on all the iron as we pull into the terminal.

Thursday, August 13, 2009

Day 225 of 365

This week, I had my first chance to take a double-decker from Clifton to Hoboken. The first day, I sat on the upper level. Second day, lower, which got me this perspective in Secaucus.

Wednesday, August 12, 2009

Day 224 of 365

After nearly three summers of living 15 minutes from Montclair State's campus (and one rained-out attempt), I finally got myself to a New Jersey Jackals game on a Wednesday morning. And then I left in the eighth before three straight rallies! The visitors took the lead in the top half, the home team came back in the bottom half, and the visitors responded in the ninth to win. Crazy game.

Day 223 of 365

Lenny loving Casey's sandals.

Monday, August 10, 2009

Day 222 of 365

Just playing around with the macro setting an an old (1884) book.

Sunday, August 09, 2009

Day 221 of 365

Just looking up as I get out of the car.

"Nepenthe patio, Big Sur, California," September 2005

I can't look at any of my photos from this evening at Nepenthe in Big Sur without immediately going back there. I feel the same enlightenment in my chest, the same peace in my soul, the same joy in my mind as we sat on the deck in the early evening just killing time. As the sun sank into the Pacific, the light only got better, growing more golden, drawing the sky in a deeper blue and turning the trees more and more into shadows and producing some great images.

Saturday, August 08, 2009

Day 220 of 365

They gave us these tiny geckos in our pints at Geddy's in Bar Harbor and we packed them away in one of our bags during the trip. After I washed them, they'd just sort of lay around the counter near the sink -- until I came home one day and noticed Casey had affixed them to the wall between the windows over the sink. Never hurts to have a little more color in the kitchen.

Friday, August 07, 2009

Day 219 of 365

Painting complete!*

*(We still have the navy blue accents to do above the white trim at the top of the first floor, around the windows and on the red knobs on the deck railings, plus a few other places. But it's close enough for me.)

Thursday, August 06, 2009

Day 218 of 365

Me: I haven't taken any pictures today.

Casey: Take this one!

Harry (squirming): Ehhhhh...

Wednesday, August 05, 2009

Day 217 of 365

Lenny under the cardboard sofa Casey made for him. I realized after midnight that the only photo I took all day was this cameraphone shot.

Tuesday, August 04, 2009

Day 216 of 365

target="DCP>Finally got the picture of the window that I wanted.

Monday, August 03, 2009

Day 215 of 365

Meryl Streep nowhere to be found, however.

"Empire on a wet night," Manhattan, September 2008

I don't take too many cameraphone shots anymore now that I have a useful, compact point-and-shoot for everyday images. But this one was my phone's screensaver for about half a year after I took it.

Sunday, August 02, 2009

Day 214 of 365

A quick, blind snap pulling away from a light.

Saturday, August 01, 2009

Day 213 of 365

I looked up and saw the light of the city reflecting off those clouds and knew they'd come out in a photo.
