Day 359 of 365

This is Christmas in Johnstown, 2009: a light freezing rain pelts the windows and forming a crisp coating over the snow in the yard. Luckily, we're comfortable and warm inside, with no place to go all day.

Happy Christmas to all!

Day 297 of 365

Managed to get from my car to the office during a break from the downpour that had occurred -- and would come back.

Day 254 of 365

I actually kinda love this shot for what it isn't: accurate. It wasn't this foggy (though it sure felt like it), but the effect comes from the fact that my little Canon Powershot was in my bag next to a cold bottle of water. So when I brought it out and exposed it to the warmer, humid air, it fogged up the lens. I didn't realize it at first -- I thought it was just on the LCD screen -- and took the shot. Then I looked at the lens and saw the condensation, so this was the only shot I took.

"Empire on a wet night," Manhattan, September 2008

I don't take too many cameraphone shots anymore now that I have a useful, compact point-and-shoot for everyday images. But this one was my phone's screensaver for about half a year after I took it.

Day 120 of 365

I love taking pictures in the car mirror. This one came as I was waiting to pick up Casey at the train station.

Day 110 of 365

It was a particularly windy day of rain, so the trash cans -- and some gutters on the street -- on nearly every corner were crammed with discarded cheap umbrellas.

Day 101 of 365

Not the prettiest of days in Manhattan, but the cold, wet weather meant no line at Shake Shack in Madison Square Park. And then it provided this dual image.

Day 7 of 365

My plan was to get some shots in Penn Station as I switched from the train to the subway on my way to work, but with some minutes to kill while switching trains in Secaucus, I pulled out the camera and turned it on the on/off ramp for the New Jersey Turnpike and the platform while I waited for the 5:25 to pull into the station.

I actually had a hard time choosing which of the nine photos to use as The One For Today, but I settled on this one because I couldn't tell it was a keeper on the LCD display after I took it. It wasn't until I got it on the computer and cropped out some dead space (and the vertical dividing line of a lamp post) on the left that I saw its potential. So I tagged it with the honor of Day 7.
