This was one of my longtime favorite images from my earliest days playing around with a camera. It's just one of those shots where you're looking at one thing -- the sunset over the water -- and it's an OK photo. But then you get that one element that makes it a better photo -- in this case, the fisherman silhouetted in the sunset.

The Bean's eye

The artist calls it Cloud Gate, but the public calls it The Bean. No matter the nomenclature, it draws people to its reflective surface to look at themselves and the city in reverse. I've only seen it once, in summer, on a sticky, steamy day, but I'm sure it's as enjoyable on a windy winter day.

After four hours' sleep and about six hours spent painting the house, I barely had enough time to clean up and get to the train -- on which I slept for half an hour. Still waking up as we disembarked at Hoboken, I took a picture as I walked up the aisle. Then I put my camera away for the day and headed into work in a trance.

Now that I approach the office from the south most days, I get to stare at this scaffolding disguised as a website ad as I wait to cross 15th St. I'm usually cutting it close as far as time goes, but I had a few minutes today and saw the two men walking toward the corner, so I was ready to get the shot I wanted. I think I like it even better with the people walking toward the silhouette than the image I had in my mind of someone walking in the same direction of it.
